curious if any of you guys are using the 300-6 or 2.3? I am on the fence for motor choices, between the 300 and a 2.3 turbo. the trans will be a t5 for sure. I have a complete 1988 turbo coupe lined up for $500. and no leads on a 300 (shouldn't be to hard to find one). any insight?
The 300 is too tall and long to fit comfortably and the turbo won't clear the passenger side shock tower without cutting... Plus the motor mount supports are unobtanium unless you can find someone in Brazil to send a set, basically must be fabbed... Also the '87-'88 Turbo Bird EFI harness is difficult to work with, the OBD test port is in the ABS/ride harness that plugs into the engine harness near the computer... Owned a dozen of the turbo Birds, had lots of experience with them(why I converted my keeper to 5.0)
Here's a very custom 300ci build. http://www.carcraft.com/featuredvehicles/ccrp_1108_1971_ford_maverick/
Also I forgot, you'll need a 2.3 front sump, oil pan from a Pinto Bean or Double Mistake to even be able to set it down in the hole... All the Fox chassis and Rangers use a rear sump pan...
And looking at it once again, I can see no reason to not have the 2 tower to firewall braces - the M/C bar might take a bit of thought and planning but is certainly not impossible
I would actually love to see a stout 200 build, or better yet, and this is my someday goal: Coyote swap.
If you can find 1 get a 240 6 cyl which is not as tall as a 300,same mtr just shorter stroke.I believe it will probably fit a mav & if you are looking for longevity & reliability it is a much better choice than a 200 or the 250.
Running a quarter mile at a time the towers will probably hold up fine, it's coming down from the wheel stands that's going to hurt them! Now that's funny!
