I need to remove this sleeve so that I can get the bearing into that outer housing. How does that inner sleeve detach for removal?
It's been so long I've forgotten, I do remember it being fairly easy but time consuming. I had the upper column collar off so I could saw off the column shifter boss and smooth it out. Don't recall if that was a necessary step though. Send me an e-mail and I send you all the pix I have. rselkirk@gt.rr.com Later!
Email sent. I am slowly taking things apart and just cannot figure out how to remove this. If I can slide it out an inch or so, I can cut some off, but would like to remove entire thing if I can.
There is a bolt that holds it, up at the top of the column. But since it collapsible, just cut the collar off the bottom, and tap the sleeve up inside, That's what Unisteer shows in their directions, there are plastic guides that keep it centered in the outer tube.
Found it and you are right. Small screw up under the collar. I just kept the first two steps of the smaller collar and will use that as a bushing for the upper half of the inner steering shaft. Thanks!!!
I shortened my entire column so it was entirely inside of the car and the only thing that went through the new firewall bearing was the new center shaft - I remember moving at least 1 of those nylon spacers because of cutting the original column shorter
