This may be an obvious question but one I am not wholly certain of. I plan on placing my 70 on blocks to remove the engine trans and rear suspension. However given the uni-body construction i am concerned as to where to place the blocks to prevent damage. Any thoughts? My initial inspection seemed to favor just ahead of the rear spring attachments and just behind the firewall. Thanks for you input..
My advise would be don't use blocks. I had one collapse once under a car. I use jack stands only on flat ground. Front ones under the flat area at the torque boxes. Rear under the rear rails.
A guy I know got killed last year when his car fell off blocks. He been working on cars for 45-50 years. Be safe and use jackstands
Use jackstands...Blocks (cinder blocks) are not not meant to hold weight in the standing on end orientation everyone uses em in. Look at how buildings are built with em. Blocks also never carry a full load they are allways staggard to distribute the wieght. But yes...Where you want to use em is fine just use jackstands...Not blocks.
If you need more height with jack stands, you can build wooden boxes to put under them. Just stagger pairs of 4x4s and them cover the sides and top with plywood. Like this: http://www.offroadfabnet.com/forums/showpost.php?p=116531&postcount=18 Here are mine under the tires:
you may want to remove...the engine and transmission... before you block it up...pull them together...
Or even raise just the rear while you remove the engine and trans. I just had a hoist and it made it easier.
I use jack stands, but also support the front crossmember with a floor jack as well as support the rearend with one also.............be safe even if it's overkill......................is worth more than your life................IMHO
