I found a new one for sale with the squirell cage. It says it's for a 76-77. Mine is earlier. Are they all the same? Thanks!

I have replaced mine for a squeaking concern, but I modified the housing to use a late model Taurus unit. I don't know if all of them are the same, but I'm reasonably certain they are different from non AC cars to AC cars.

John, I did change mine on my 72 Comet with Integral AC, not the dealer installed version. I purchased mine from RockAuto. According to their website, it calls for the same part number for the 70-77 Maverick and that same blower motor is listed for the 71-77 Comet.

    Hope this helps you.

Injectedmav, yes I am aware that the a/c blower are different than the heater blowers.
BKelley, you're saying that yours has factory air, right? And yes this does help. I had no idea the blowers were available at Rock auto. I wonder if the NOS one I'm looking at is any better as I'm guessing the aftermarket version is probably made overseas. How much did you pay for yours?

John, yes mine is factory AC. At the time I purchased mine, RockAuto had a special running so I was able to pick it up for 18 and some change, plus shipping of course. I do not know if it was made overseas but it came in a Four Seasons box. In my opinion, Four Seasons makes top quality heating and cooling related products. I think they are around 50 now at RockAuto?

Did that come with the squirrel cage?

I don't think the Rock Auto blower motor comes with the cage.

If needed, you may want to look at the Four Seasons 35611 as a replacement cage. I have not bought one, but it comes up from a search.

Thanks guys. I guess I'm leaning towards that NOS setup with squirell cage already attached. My concern remains the listing says 76-77. Still not sure why now since you guys said the aftermarket units fit all years.

    John,
I got in on a clearance deal at Rock Auto .... probably the same one mentioned above, but this was a couple years ago and there was a handful left. It is a Four Seasons part.

Here is a pic that I have saved here. It may be handy for reference ... (click TWICE for the really big detailed shot)

I also have posted tech threads on the differences in center dash vents and the internals of early vs late AC units.

I know the round flexible tubing goes up to the box. I'm trying to make sure I'm not missing a straight pure of hard plastic tubing behind the glove box somewhere. Searching for your threads on A/C differences is not working because the word A/C is too short for the search function. And thanks for the help!

Jeff, I also cannot find the tech article on the internal differences between early and late model AC plenums, I did find the tech article for the vent differences. Can you paste the links to this thread for John and I?

My feelings are that a 35/40 year old NOS motor will likely have a short life unless it's dissembled and bearings cleaned & lubricated before being put into service... Old grease is closer to glue than grease...

I find myself heavily agreeing with this guy. Unless you are prepared to fully open that new motor up and service it prior to installation don't buy it.

Usually the squirrel cages aren't that hard to swap over. You only really need to replace it if it's broken. I haven't owned an AC Mav/Comet yet though, so I can't speak to these specific ones.
