You know, we've all discussed several times how our Mavericks get called everything BUT a Maverick when we get them out. My blue car has been called Mustang, Vega, Nova, Viper, (yes, because of the Cobra emblem LOL), and occasionally a Comet. Well, I got payback today. I stopped by the parts house to pick up a set of wiper blades for the 77 Comet I just purchased. Its a nice looking car with a GT hood scoop and a set of GT-like stripes. The older gentleman that waited on me says "Man!! That sure is a nice looking Grabber Maverick you got out there!!" So now I know!!! All the Comet guys have been keeping quiet on that one. They didn't want us to know everybody thought there cars were Mavericks!!!
Yes, it's true. We all have been sniggering up our sleeves that no one knows what a Maverick actually looks like. Mine says COMET GT on the side, and people still call it a maverick.
what i always wanted to know is why are there so many mavericks but so little comets out there? (thats what it seems like anyway) where the mercury comets higher in price?
so true lol, mine a comet yet EVERYONE calls it a maverick...so i gave up and swapped front ends, now its sort of a maverick.
Randy, Comets weren't that much more in price, but there were a LOT more Ford dealers. Lincoln-Mercury dealers tended to be located in metro areas. Ford dealers were everywhere. Surviving Comets tend to be near where the old dealerships were. We had 3 L-M dealers and 8 Ford dealers within 25 miles here. Compared to the 5-1 Mav/Comet actual production, the numbers here in the Tampa area have always seemed closer to 3-1, if that high. Ray, There is a good reason for this license plate .... link doesn't seem to work to enlarge the pic ... it says "NO MAVRK" ... you get it all the time from guys half-familiar with old Fords.
