My Maverick has a 250 I6 and I have a few questions about mods. I was thinking about adding a carb. adaptor for a 2 barrel, header and maybe a cam. What kind of horsepower increase could I expect? Would it be worth the cost or should I just look at putting in a 302?
You can find out everything you want to know about building up the Ford sixes at below link. Good luck http://www.fordsix.com/
A direct mounted carburetor is the way to go on the six cylinder. Headers, re-curve the distributor, electronic ignition, little more gear ratio, a better cam will have your 6 running just as good as a factory or poorly built V8. It might not make the horsepower but the toque numbers will be there...and that is what you feel pushing you into the seat.
X2 on the direct mount...also visit this site for parts: www.classicinlines.com They also have a service to do the direct mount. Good luck!
