Has anyone squeezed in a dual speed fan from a 3.8 Taurus and had enough clearance??? I have one and it fits the radiator nicely(will need some custom mounting), but there is less than 1/4" clearance between the fan motor and water pump, I'm not comfortable with that... I understand there are shorter pumps used on the '91-'93 T-Bird & '94-'95 Stang, but those are reverse rotation and require a specific timing cover so I don't want to hassle with that(even though the 5.0 isn't completely assembled yet)... Also my car has factory A/C that will be retained, so a aftermarket would have to move enough air to keep things cool... So I suppose my question is, are there any std rotation pumps that have a inch or so shorter pulley mount that I could use the original belt setup??? Yeah I realize I'd need a shorter depth W/P pulley but I actually have one from a big block that I could use if I had the right pump...
ive used the escort fan on my car, and i just installed one on vvr210's car. its got the fan more offset than the taurus fan. bedsides the off set the motor and fan blades appear to be the same. hear are pics of the fan on vvr210's car heres the pics of it on my car. my car has a crossflow radiator and electric water pump mashori installed the taurus fan in his car and had to off set it pretty far. he had to put a filler plate in. heres pics of his i hope this helps
Thanks Bryant, that appears closer than mine as I have a tiny bit of clearance... Frank, any idea what year the fans were??? I think mine is a '95 and is defiantly from a 3.8, I'm guessing a 3.0 possibly used a smaller/thinner fan??? If I remember correctly the 3.0 fans weren't quite as massive and was the reason I pulled one from a 3.8(bought it for my 5.0 T-Bird)... I've had this one probably five or six years so it's a bit foggy now...
I have one out in the garage, I can measure. It's the next mod I was going to do...Mine came from 3.0l Taurus.
OK Dave when you get a chance, mine has a large open area between the shock towers at the moment(engine is out)...
94ish 3.8 installed them with duel sensors and Volvo relay... Jeff, Earl and I make a run to Pull a Part ever so often and get 5-6 at a time...(fans/relays). Tim just installed one on Collins '73 302.
Here is what I did to gain some clearance: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=47628&highlight=taurus+fan As you can see, the fan motor is extremely close to the water pump on my car. It's never caused me any issue. I do have button head allen screws on the pump pulley now just to eek out a little extra clearance.
