K i replaced the ailing hoses and cap and it is now holding pressure fine. However that only somewhat fixed the overheating. It still goes up quite fast when you are in drive and stopped, which was always its worst time. Pump and Stat confirmed working. I suppose all thats left would be the radiator or its lack of a shroud. To have the radiator tested do I take it off and bring it to them or can it be done on car?
I'm thinking it has to be that cause i just don't see how a shroud is going to do enough stop it rising to 190 after only 5 mins stopped.

It can be pressure tested in the car. I work at Midas, & we test them for free....Or you can find someone with a pressure tester.

Have rad, tested.Factory fans are not real efficant unless they close to radiator.Fan shroud could lower temp by 10 degrees. If trans. is running hot that would over work cooling sys.too.Also is the radiator the right size for motor? Do you hve a rad. for a 6cyl in front of a v-8? Does the trans fluid smell burnt?

stat is a 160. This pressure test they do is that the same thing i did today where you put that pump on there and see if it holds 16psi?

and the radiator is for a 302 i think, the car used to have 302 and covnerted to a 200. The trans seems fine, it is newly rebuilt and still under warranty. Fluid is good. I was thinking would too high of an idle make it work too hard at a stop and cause the overheating. Thats the only time it gets too hot now. Doesnt do it in park only when the motor is working against the brakes.

Yes.If car has A/C it realy needs that shroud. You may also want to add one of those products that claim to reduce water temps. Anyone here ever tried one that they can recomend?

Not sure ,maybe. The A/C condenser may be full of debris slowing air flow, but I think a shroud is needed. So this is a 6cyl with a V8 rad.?

    hmm

timing is at 6 btdc like the label says. i think i'm gonna drop the condenser off the a/c isnt working anyway. It sprang a leak a while back and has no refrigerant(i think its r-12) so its dead at the moment.

Redline brand "water wetter" is worth a try.
