ok so im building a 302 to replace my 250 and i have the stock 302 heads and cam and i went and drove my brothers comet and the sound of the exhaust is perfect and he has shorty headers with flowmaster 50 series and im going with longtube headers with 40 series and i asked if mine could sound like that and he said no because he has 351 heads and i was wondering if any body has the setup that im going with and how does it sound thanks
Long tube headers. Flowmaster super 44 which are a little louder than regular 40s. The lopey idle is due to the cam. Engine specs are listed below.
You can get a stock engine to sound good with the right mufflers/pipe diameters and long tube headers. If you want it to sound like a hopped up engine...You have to hop it up. The sound has more to do with cam choice and compression ratio than the actual heads being used.
As the others have said sound has more to do with the cam, but I will say mine sounded a lot louder after swapping to trick flow from e7's. Same tone just louder.
I actually drove mine around stock with just the muffler cut off. Wasn't really loud, but sounded pretty good. Then used long glasspacks in side pipes and everyone loved the sound. That was bone stock with a 4-barrel swap. That is what I mean by "no heads or cam". But you all know I mean head or cam upgrades...geez.
There you go... Better heads = more HP due to increased flow, exhaust will be louder... Cam will control the pumping characteristics of the engine, which mostly effects the type of sound...
People like the sound of my long tubes, true duals and flowmaster 40's with dumps....I don't. I think some slp loudmouths will wake the neighborhood up
