New power steering questions. Type fluid? Cooler needed? Where to find pulley?

    Decided to go with CJ Pony Parts for my new 5.0-type power steering parts. They have the pump and hoses, even recommended which belt to use.

    Recommended that I use ATF, any specific type better than another?

    He said that a cooler is not needed. Agree?

    Anyone know which pulley I need and where I can get one?

    I am converting from manual to power rack and pinion. Don't have a pulley, and the pumps all come without one.

    OK, found one at a hi performance ford dealer here in Houston, got Ford part number, and found it on ebay for half the price.

    Was not aware it was a plastic pulley....

    That is probably why there are so many on ebay!

    The local ford guy had a steel one for the same price as the march pulley!

    EDIT--I looked at the descriptions of all of the ebay listings, and the very last one said STEEL CONSTRUCTION!!! and only $22 where the plastic ones were $38.

    i would only put a cooler in if you plan on doing something like autocrossing or driving a lot of twisty roads.

    I will ask on a local mustang forum. I don't personally know anyone who drives a 5.0 stang.

    Most of the P/S fluids from Ford from the late 90+ are being superceded by Mercon V (that's 5 for those of us Roman-numerically challenged).

    HOWEVER, for a 1993 Mustang 5.0, ShopKey5 still lists Type F as the Power Steering fluid. Capacity = 1.70 PTS (or 0.8 Litres).

    What would be benefits or hazards of using Mercon V vs Type F?

    I looked up the history of the two, and Mercon V seems to be the top of the line stuff.
