Got a mobile welder coming to look at it this afternoon, said he charges $125 minimum, and should be able to weld it up in an hour tomorrow morning.

I am working from home, writing reports, and don't have time to call a bunch of places for competitive pricing, so is this $125 a decent deal?

I believe it's a fair price, considering he has to come to ur location. U have to consider he has to make a profit, use/replace consumables, fuel cost, and other expense associate w/ bussiness operations. I just hope his work is satisfactory.

Owns a shop, and has the truck, so I hope that he is successful and good enough to stay in business.

My cousin tried to weld it in using a 220 mig hooked up to a generator, and the voltage drop each time he lit the torch created welds that not only look ugly, I am not comfortable with the quality of the weld as far as penetration. So I attempted to get another cousin to come out with better equipment, but I cannot seem to connect with him. So now hiring a professional from the yellow pages. This is for my R&C rack and pinion crossmember, so the welds need to be strong enough to keep the engine off the ground, and the shock hats from popping off when I drive.

I work at a shop where our mechanical labor rate is $89 an hour...probably more like $100 an hour in larger cities. I use that rate as a comparison when thinking about having work done I can't do myself. To get something welded by a professional for a little over an hour labor sounds reasonable.

Alright, thanks for all the feedback. I felt the price was fair, but didn't want to do it and find out I paid twice the going rate afterwards.

I charge $90 for the call then min of $45 to weld. I have a welder in my work truck that goes where ever I go. You can barely see it sticking up above the bed on the LR.

I will PM you my address!

    Can't beat that price!

It is only a 9 hour drive, plus or minus. Each way.

    WOW!!! Flabbergasted!

I called that guy back up and he had a long list of excuses for why he did not call me back. Got tied up with another job, had to wait for the UPS guy, etc.

Then I said "so, are you still interested in the job?" and he says "You know, you can find someone else to do it if you want."

I said "no, I am cool, if you want to do it it is all yours."

"Naw, maybe you need to find someone else to do it."

    Then I was all like...

    :eek3: :hmmm:

Have you considered trailering it to a local shop where they could mig it in? Personaly I would rather mig it than stick it. My offer is to do it for free if you brought it.. But I know it's a long way..

Thanks for the offer, Gene, but no wheels on the front. Trailering it would be a hassle, then getting it off and back into the garage would be another hassle.

And I DID hire him on the spot YESTERDAY! He just failed to show up, then had all these excuses this morning. Then told me NO.

Coulda said NO yesterday, and I would have lined someone else up for the job. This is going to put me behind ANOTHER week...

Monday, I may just drive through the parking lots at the pipe yards (hundreds of them around here) and just start calling the numbers on the sides of the trucks until I get a hit.

I woulda paid him $200 if he had asked for it.

I do no like being stood up, and then denied at the last minute. Not good business.

I would understand if I had gotten an attitude or got mouthy or something, but I just shy of begged the guy to come this morning, with utmost respect.

Well, I have some feelers out through facebook and a local fishing forum, to see if anyone can do this for me sometime soon.
