Trying to tie my stock steel fuel lines into braided stainless. I assume there is a professional way to do this????
Slide a tube nut and sleeve onto the steel line. Then use a 37 deg. flaring tool to single flare the steel line. Then it can be mated to any -6AN type fitting. http://www.russellperformance.com/mc/adapt_fit/fit_misc.shtml
I think I used a 3/8"x 1/4" NPT fitting mated to a 6AN fitting to do this on mine. I seated this combination in the fenderwell hole, using a short piece of 3/8 rubber fuel hose between the 3/8 nipple and the factory fuel line. The fuel line is inside the fenderwell, the stainless in the engine compartment.
That states it is designed for aluminum fuel line... not sure if it would work on his stock steel lines? Maybe it works using a compression ferrule.
Ah, thanks. I am pretty sure mine are brake flares. I will give the local shop a second chance today. If he can help me get this part working, I will start using him for my parts. He is close to work, and maybe I caught him at a bad time last week.
Here is what I got. The guy at "mom and pop" store said I don't need to flare the tube for this. It has a brass ferule, but no instructions. Flare, or not? Either way, I need to do this to my trans cooler lines, as well! No more hose clamps!
The brass ferrule may not fully compress and seal against steel tubing. You can try it though. Im with Bryant on flaring the tubing against using a brass ferrule.
Would any sort of sealant or other material help to seal this? Or just brute strength and crossed fingers?
