Can someone give me the width measurement of the maverick 8inch rear? I want the width from where the wheel bolts against the drum to the same on the other side. Thanks.....Dave

I went outside and measured again. The tape measure is hooked on the other side of an 1/8" thick angle iron so minus 1/8" to get the total. Looks closer to 55-3/4". Sure is a far way from 56-1/2"

    This is a 76 Granada (below) It's right at 57-3/4"...not 58-1/2"

Hey Dave, I got 56.5" on the one I just picked up in the Springs. I measured from outer drum cover to outer drum cover.

What year rear end? I heard the later years were wider. I do know the later rear ends have different axle tubes. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=84148

I'm not 100% sure but it may have come from a late model...I want to say '77. I hooked the tape measure to the center nut on the pumpkin and got 29.5" and the flipped it and got 27".

What year did they change width, '75?

I can go out and measure the one in my 73, after dinner.

I also have one on my '74, I'll check it a bit later.

So you measured the width of the same 9/16" nut twice and the thickness of both brake drums? If so, after doing the math, we measured about the same distance without have a micrometer or laser light on hand

I hooked the tape on the nut on the first measurement and then just butted it against the nut on the second. Double checked and it is 56 1/2" but it was 27 1/2" and 29" mixed my 1/2".

I tried to get the '74 but it's not jacked and my tank and traction bars make it hard to get to. I know it's at least 55"...haha. Can't do better.

Maybe the '71 does have a narrower rear end than the '73-up. I would like to know if anyone can confirm this on their 71 or 72 5-lug 8"

I would think 74 would have been the change, if any, that's when they went to the larger hub at the end of the axle ?
