Key ignition switch in dash?.69.5 Maverick

I met this older guy name Dean Klinger, he is second owner of his 69.5 Maverick, since 1983..also has a 77 he restoring. The key ignition switch in the 69.5 is in dash next to the stereo, I always thought they were in the steering column. Does anyone know if Ford put some Mavericks out like that, he is curious about it. He is a Maverick/Comet lover like us but he doesn't own a computer.

He has 20plus mavericks up in the field, Klingers Salvage in Pine Grove, PA if anyone looking for parts.

 

The early Mavericks, commonly referred to as 69.5's had the key in the dash.
