So I troubleshot that my fuel pump was toast. So I replaced it, now its working. Anyhow I am getting fuel to my carb, but where it goes into the front it stops. It builds up pressure because when i pulled the line from the front it shot out everywhere. What would be causing it to stop there? I also noticed it looks like it could be missing some things. Can you look at the pictures and tell me if everything appears to be hooked up? The car starts and idles perfect when I dump gas inside the carb. Another note, the gas tank was rusted really badly. Maybe some rust got into the carb and has ruined it? Thanks guys.
I don't see a fuel filter. If there is no filter and you had a rusty tank, the carb is probably full of rust and all kinds of stuff.
give the carb a good rebuild and change the gas tank.or have the tank professionally cleaned and sealed or youre going to keep having these kind of issues. you can put a couple of fuel filters in the line and one in the carb and change them regularly (depending on how much rust in in your tank) regularly could mean weekly OR just put a fuel cell in the trunk and be done with it
The tank is out of the car and going in to Kirk's radiator to get refurbished on Monday. I am running a hose into my motorcycle gas tank through the brand new filter and fuel pump. I opened the carburetor up and I am in the process of cleaning it. I will check the local part stores for a rebuild kit as well.
This part is sticking in the up position. I believe this is what is keeping the fuel from entering the bowl. When i spray it with carb cleaner it works for a minute till it dries. i bought a rebuild kit. This should get interesting.
Thats the float I mentioned in the first post. It floats up as the gas enters the bowl. Once full it pushes the needle up and stops the fuel from entering. As the fuel level drops it sinks and lets the needle down to release more fuel. Since you already have it apart, a good cleaning and rebuild kit would be a good idea. I noticed you didnt have anything, like a rag, blocking the opening down to your intake. You should really cover it in case you drop something.
make sure to soak that carb good overnight and then blow out the passages with a good cleaner such as berryman b-12 chemtool
You will get a new needle and seat with a rebuild kit (That rod the float pushes on) Use it...Also...Give the float a shake...If it sounds like it has liquid in it, replace it. If it sounds fine (No sloshing sounds) Dunk it in a bowl of water and look for bubbles. If you see bubbles it leaks (replace it) if not...Its good to go...Good luck!!!
Car is running like a sewing machine now. I even jacked the back up and switched it through the gears. Now I am just waiting for the fuel tank renu. Thanks for all the help guys.
