Dave rolled into town here to escape the cold weather and we had some fun today. He came up to my place and looked at my junk. Then we swung by and saw Franktf and his masterwork. Very nice stuff, as you would expect. Then, we accomplished a goal he had set ... to get a nice clean rear axle out of an Explorer. We scoured the junkyard, looking at several, and settled on one being the best ... no rust, 4:10 gear, posi, disc brakes. About halfway through pulling it, I looked on the ground and was a bit puzzled ... I thought Dave dropped this .... Then I had a closer look at it and we both had a good laugh. What are the odds?
That is pretty darn funny!! I went to the junkyard last Thursday....but I had to take a shovel and dig the car out of the snow.
What an awesome day!! I have to thank Jeff for letting me come over to have a look at all his stuff (which is not junk) then helping me get that rear end out...I'm not as young as I once was...and I'm felling it tonight!! Plus Frank does some amazing work and has one sweet ride in the works!! I was in a bit of a daze today, and I had looked at that button at least twice, even reading it...and it didn't click....You northern guys have no idea what cars are in the wreckers down here, it would make a few guys I know, cry for sure. Thanks again guys, what an awesome day!!!
No, it's used, Plus after 48 hours abroad, we can bring back $800/ea duty & tax free. Darren, you should see some of the stuff!! sickening!!
You don't have to pay if it is chained to your bumper hitch and you are dragging it on the pavement .... not technically in your vehicle .... They do get ticked off at what you are doing to the blacktop, however ....
Dave stopped in GA and saw Frank and Jeff then went to FA and saw Jeff and Frank. What are the odds in that?
I have sold used parts to people overseas, including a stock radiator, and he got NAILED with customs charges. I was not aware that "used" parts were duty free. I guess from now on, we need to quickly "use" a new part before shipping it over...just take it out of the packaging and put our grimy fingerprints all over it.
When you ship something to someone, it's a little different than that actual person buying it while in another country. Customs examines every package coming into the country, one by one. We we travel to the US going to swap meets, the border guards usully don't care when it's a used auto part.
