Took my '72 Maverick on a trip down to Venice, FL to see my girlfriend's parents for Christmas. After we finished with all the boring family crap, we hit the road, drove up through Anna Maria Island, then hit I-275 and drove across the skyway bridge and explored Tampa a bit. Then we took I-4 over to Daytona and spent a day and a half there, drove up and down the beaches and did a lot of site seeing. Figured I would share a few pics of the old beater we took over the course of the trip.... more to come

That's a trip I would like to take. I have been to Anna Maria Island once in the past.
Why last road trip for the beater?

I'm really glad you two had fun. That sounds really a good thing to do. After I put my 1974 Comet on the road next week. Me an the wife may have to do the same. Thank's for your pictures to.

Last trip because I'm retiring this body shell for good soon. I've been driving it daily since 2005 and put nearly 190k on it. It was only meant to be a temporary car when I originally put it together, because of the amount of rust and bondo in it, and it's been hit hard in the rear at some point in it's life and repaired poorly. I have another car to replace it temporarily while I strip it and build up another body shell that I intend drive permanently. The car had 228k miles on it when I bought it (according to the title), and as of getting home from this trip last night, it has 415,701. The car has very marginal heat, and every body seal on it is deteriorated, rusted out cowl, etc. I'm tired of rebuilding this crappy front suspension once a year, tired of not having A/C, etc. It's time to build up another the way I really want it, with Mustang II suspension, heat and A/C, all new everything.

The car has been on several road trips including a trip to Detroit at Thanksgiving last year.

We honey-mooned on Anna Maria Is. Friend of the family has a place two blocks from the beach. Looks like a great trip and great ride to boot.

Yep, same car. That was in November 2010. I lost it on some ice on top of Blood Mountain near Cleveland, GA and ran down a small ravine and literally into the side of the mountain. It was just cold and rainy on either side of the mountain, all the snow and ice up there caught me off guard. Should have turned back the first time I slid on the ice, but figured if I went slow enough I'd be fine... live and learn. The car didn't sustain any structural damage and I was able to drive it out back onto the road and 60 miles the rest of the way home.

If it has survived all that, I would just keep driving it...lol... most new cars would have died already.... Cool pic's too, lots of memory's made....
