If it is not a stock engine, and has ever been rebuilt, such as mine was...you cannot assume anything about it without verifying. Those 5.0s were built during transitional years. Even if it IS stock I would still be verifying the parts before assembly. You can't just go mixing and matching parts and expect that engine to last long (or even run!). For example, mine was a fresh rebuild that some guy bought to slap into a truck. I got it after he gave up on it, and never could get it to run. It has ZERO miles on it. When I got it home and took it apart to verify everything was kosher, I noticed three pistons were still clean and silver, and had never been fired upon. So, I am pretty sure he was trying to hook it up with the wrong firing order, and could never get it to run, gave up, gave it away, and I got it for $200! His truck used to run the 302 firing order, but when he bought this rebuilt 5.0, it used the 351 firing order. It was flat tappet, but I drilled two holes in lifter valley, tapped them, and put in all roller parts to effectively make it an "HO" engine.
mine is completly stock i was asking about the dis because i didnt want to deal with alot of different wires
What kind of vehicle are you pulling it from? What year, what model, and has the engine ever been out of the first vehicle?
You stated intake was off, does it have the roller lifter retainers??? If these retainers(and spider, not pictured) are missing and the lifters are shorter with no flats, then it's a non roller cam engine...
Then it's not likely a HO engine unless it's from a '85 automatic Stang or '82-84... You can use your orig dist in a non-roller cam engine...
