Pretty neat! I see a Hz reading on there... Does it work as a type of spectrum analyzer too?

Yes, reads frequencies and Db on a graph and live-reading.

Very cool! When you get a stereo you'll be all ready to throw some pink noise at it :thumbs2:

Oh yeah! I love Pink (Floyd, that is, not that hiphop chick!)

When/if I get the drone to go away, I have a 12" kicker, a 600W amp, and some other stuff ready to install. I just cannot see putting in a stereo if I cannot hear it over the exhaust noise!

Right there with yea. I just tore the stereo out of my GT because it wasn't working, was wired in messy and badly, and the exhaust needs replacing. No point in putting in a new stereo system until after it gets fixed. Can't hear a thing over the growl.

and JSarnold can you post some pics of the rest of that exhaust set-up. I'm planning out my exhaust system currently.

Yes, I think that is the bulk of my problem. Going to put some flex at the front and rear of the setup and see if it relaxes the "tuning fork" so the vibes float away...

Not that easy to do without a lift. Is there some section you're particularly interested in? There's really not much that's unique about my exhaust system except maybe the resonators and the way the tail pipes are tucked up. Think the routing is pretty obvious once you choose your headers and exit points.

If you anticipate transmission work you can think about connectors that minimize how much of the system has to be removed to do that. When mine was re-worked a torque converter change was in the future so connectors were installed that allowed the tail pipes to stay in place.

Mine is all slip-fit except for three bolts at collector so i can tear it down piece by piece as needed, one side or both.

My exhaust hangs from the rear seatbelt bolts, with no drone.

lol I love me some Floyd too :thumbs2:
Pink noise is a static-like signal you can use to tune a sound system to natural acoustics of the space. Just pump it through the sound system and use that spectrum analyzer at your listening position to determine the frequency variances. Then you can set your eq to eliminate the peaks or dips :dancing:

Probably won't help the hiphop chic sound any better :p

OK. Pretty much FIXED THE DRONE!!. About 90% gone and easily quiet enough to drive without having to scream over it or take Vicodin afterwards to get rid of the headache! Quiet enough that I can actually hear the engine, and I DO, in fact, have a miss, which was causing the surging feeling I was experiencing.

Will post pictures of what I ended up with in a minute. (On the phone talking right now...)

    Here is what I did.

    1) I bought decent bolt-on hangers, drilled and tapped a hole into my frame rail, and mounted it up.

    2) Pulled out the H-pipe, and mounted the two flex-tubes in and tack-welded them on just behind the header collector.

    3) Mocked up each half of the exhaust with a floor jack, cut hanger hooks to fit, and put a large figure-8 rubber isolator between the hanger and the hooks.

    4) I pulled each half of the exhaust out a bit, and up as close to the floor as I could.

    5) Took it for a drive and MUCH quieter inside. Still has the loud flowmaster sound inside and out, and I can actually hear the EXHAUST sound, but VERY little drone. Little enough that most people probably would not even notice it, but I do because I am listening for it.

I drove it at various speeds including the two cruising speeds that used to drive me nuts, and it was quiet enough to talk over (or listen to a radio if I had one, which I may get soon, now that it is quieter!).

Scary thing is that each entire side was just slipped on, and I drove about 5 miles at various speeds, and it all held together. But when I pulled into my driveway, the right side fell of and I drove right over it!!! :yikes:

Now that I like the way it sounds, I need to go back out and weld it all up so it won't fall apart again!

Also, I need to move things around a little so that it hangs a bit more symmetrical and even. Might put another hook and hanger on the front near the flex tube, as well. And most likely downturns mounted out toward the side and down (maybe, unless it makes it drone again).

At this point, I think I just might keep the Super44s!:yahoo:

Friendly word of advice here. Run those flexpipes right after the collector with a short stub/reducer and save yourself the headache of tearing them up on driveway/parking lot entrys/exits. Looks pretty low in the belly.

otherwise.. congrats on the new sound. :Handshake

And if you like the way it sounds now.. imagine what tailpipes will do for you. No doubt that turnouts will help a tad more too. Then we'll hear you complaining because the exhaust doesn't sound racy enough anymore. :D
