I was wondering how many of you are running disconnect switches and what type. I currently have the little twist knob on the negative cable type like this:

I'm not crazy about the looks or quality and was thinking about other options. Flaming River offers one called the "Little Switch" that has a removable key for when the vehicle is left somewhere for security.

    Any thoughts?

i use battery cut off switches for drag racing use.

my question to you is what is your reasons and or needs for a battery cut off switch?

different switches can meet different needs.

Storage. The car is kept in a basement garage. I don't want to risk an electrical fire while being stored.

The switch will be on the negative side....not positive like NHRA rules. It will not be a kill switch type disconnect to cut alternator power when running.

I'm putting them in for car show purposes. Some shows require you to disconnect your battery :)

I usually disconnect the battery cables completely when storing a vehicle. Living where I do I always have corrosion on the connectors after a few months of sitting. In fact I completely take batteries out so I can keep track of them. Sitting in the car hooked up and not running is the main way to get dirty corroded contacts.

That said, I'm pretty interested in this topic because I want to install battery disconnects for those occasional periods when I am driving another car and I've been pretty unhappy with the junk ones all the local places sell.

either of the two above should meet your needs.

I was looking at the typical cut off switch, then ran across the Flaming River one with the removable key and thought that might also come in handy if I ever leave the car anywhere.

I'm thinking it would mount on the right tower area pretty easily since it has a bracket.

Lots if guys use those green ones on the negative side, just buy a good one, not a $5 one from a swap meet
I've never really worried about it, but when my car gets put away for the winter, I pull the negative off the battery.

That's what I did, bought a $5 from walmart and a year or two later it started looking like crap.

I flip mine off every time I park it in the shop. seems to help keep the charge up on the battery...:yup:
it's also handy when you are working on the car to switch off the power as not to short anything out...batt in trunk.
