two days ago my car started to run rough and had got start to run even rougher as i drove it more. i just replaced the sparks, wire, timing, and carb. my exhaust does putt and makes the engine and car shake alot. im assuming the engine is not getting the proper flow as it should
Did you just get it running, or was it running fine and then just went to crap. If its the first, sounds like your timing is way off and your shooting unburnt fuel into your exhaust quite a bit. If it's the second... most gas stations are switching to winter fuel blends, I find that I usually have to re-tune my engine for this.
Was the car running poorly before or after you put new parts in it??? Did you replace the carburetor base gasket when you changed the carb out? Dont re-use the old ones...If you have a stock 6/V8 with an egr plate, you have 2 base gaskets to replace... Are the spark plugs properly gapped? Is the fireing order correct?...You may have crossed a plug wire.
car was running good all summer.. i went to virginia for a week came home drove it for a day, the next day this problem started.. also all parts is new and i have had my timing checked in june.. also i have put about 6,000 miles on the car since
6000 miles... cars running rough. Are you still on points? I typically readjusted my points every 3000 along with a carb tune-up and oil change, sometimes I would pull my plugs and clean them up a bit too just in case my spark was weakened from the points getting off. First thing to do though is get some starter fluid and spray it on your vacuum lines, and around the base of your carb. Check for vacuum leaks, if it revs up youve got a vacuum leak. Then get a timing light out and see if your timing has slipped. Sometimes the bolt on the dist clamp comes loose on these old engines and your timing slips. If that's the case replace it. Next, put a vacuum gauge on it and see what it does. After that pull the plugs and see if theres something wrong there. Also check your coolant and oil to make sure you don't have any gaskets leaking there. There that covers the basics. Good luck.
