ok, how in the $%^&* do you adj. the trunk lid?? . mike came over to look at my carb. and we got to looking at the trunk lid. we couldn't move the lid about... any!! to the pass. side. we could make it worse but not better. thanks for any help...frank...
Frank ... first remove the latch. Then you gotta lay inside the trunk and let Mike adjust it from the outside. Once it is perfect tighten up the hinge bolts from the inside! You can also push and pull on the hinges bending and adjusting them to get the lid to where it lines up nicely. You can also adjust the latch for final alignment when the lid is closed ...
thanks Dan, but mike and i went there today. i can't get it to go to the pass. side. bending the hinges sounds good but couldn't get it to move. i will try again tomorrow...frank...
I'm having the same issue, even took the latch assy. off, the right side is higher. What if one were to disconnect the spring assy. and install struts like from a Ford Focus?
It is best to adjust the deck lid with the spring tension removed...Otherwise, when you loosen the mount bolts. The springs try to lift the hinges...This will throw off your adjustment and drive you nutz...
OK, I'll try that next. I've read the spring can be a bear to man handle, any advice? Thank you, Mark
It's not hard to remove and install. Use a 3/8" deep well socket on an extension for a pry bar on the driver’s side of the spring to unhook it. The right side has to align up with the slot to fish it out on the passenger’s side. Just don’t push the right side hinge down or the stop will flip inside out. If it flips...then it's a bear. The left/right adjustment is done by moving the striker on the trunk lid. The striker will pull the lid straight when it close
Question for rthomas771, You seem to know what you're talking about. I'm hoping you can help me because I pushed the right side of the hinge down, and I don't know what happened, but it was major, and nobody has since then been able to tell me what's wrong or how to fix it. The end result was that the right hinge no longer follows its proper range of movement. When I pushed it down, it "let go" with a loud bang, and from that time up, it seems like the hinge has moved because when you go to lift it up (without the lid installed) to full open position, the inside of the curve of the hinge hits up against the back edge of the trunk, effectively blocking it from travelling it's full arc. I've looked at it many times, but can't see any different from the pictures of other trunk hinges that I've photographed for comparison. Do you have any idea what has happened, and how I can fix it? Thanks for any help you can provide. John B
not Jeff, but it looks like you will have to get another car...J/K as Jeff said..."Just don’t push the right side hinge down or the stop will flip inside out. If it flips...then it's a bear."
Here's mine. Don't see that much difference, except in the last shot you can see that the trunk lid is hitting against the edge of the trunk, and it's not even open all the way. I included the pic of the left side so you can see its position at the same time. I tried changing the tension on the spring. It's been a long time, but I think it made a slight difference.
