I went out this morning and started the Windsor up after the new fuel pump install to verify it worked ok, it did, then I was under the car trying to finish up tranny mount and exhaust and saw liquid dripping in the area of the fuel pump, got out from under the car to take a look and saw nothing from the fuel pump so I started tracing down the liquid source, followed the drip to the coil and there it was, bubbling out of the coil, what the...quickly disconnected the battery and felt the coil and it was extremely HOT! whats going on? Duraspark ignition and I double checked my connections, guess I need to triple check them now, what do I look for? what could cause this?

Did you leave the key on for a long time???
Make certain you dont have voltage at the coil with the key off.
If you do...Ignition switch isnt' turning off...That will cook a coil.
Or you got a bad coil.

Hmmm now that I think about it, it didn't want to shut off with the key I had to choke it and shut it down, but I DID turn the key off, guess I need to find out why it wouldn't shut down with the key.

Figure out why it wouldnt shut off, and you will know what killed the coil...

I know all about this. I had a bad ignition switch that kept 12v on the coil, and it fried about 3 coils and two distributers before I found what the problem was. Check the switch, and then replace the coil, and you should be ok.

Ok I think I have it figured out, the coil was wired straight to the battery side not the switched side, guess I didn't catcht that when I put the other setup in, god this car has been abused sorely.

Everything seems fine, fired right up after proper wiring.
