C4 Problem

    hello,trying to trouble shoot my stock c4 it was working fine but after i got in it a couple of times and let it sit for a week or so it will go in drive but slip i gotta take it down to 1st gear then ill go and i have to shift up but when it gets to drive it slips again.And recently what it started doing is ill engage put feels like it dis engages at times and then engages back up,do the belts need to be tighten or i blew it? Any of you guys had this problem before?:hmmm:

    how does the fluid look? red, brown, black? Does it smell burnt?

    Black with a redish tint to it doesent smell burned or have any metal shavings.

    Assuming you checked fluid level, try adjusting the bands, but more than likely its time for a rebuild.

    Would i have to take the valve body off to do this?

    1972 Maverick Grabber - Color: Orange Also, 1976 Ford Maverick 4-door, 1977 Mercury Comet 2-door.
    Have you verified the transmission fluid is at the correct level? Sounds like it is low on tranny fluid to me.

    Do c4 use regular atf or a special kind of oil?I put in oil that says in the back of the quart NOT RECOMENDED WHERE FORD M2C33-F IS REQUIERD and the dip stick says WARRANTY REQUIRES M2C33-F (TYPE F OIL) the napa people said it was ok to use but after i dumped it in then i realized what the dip stick said...what oil should i use?
