I got curious today and tried to cross reference the serial numbers on the bottom of the block. 8E25 (have no idea what that means) the second code C80E-6015-A sudjest that my 302 is from 1968 but what dose the "A" mean?
If I remember correctly A would be the first production run, B or C would be after minor changes were made. I might be wrong though so wait for an expert to chime in.
8E25 is May 25, 1968 for the casting date of the block. -A is basically the first production design, like was suggested above.
Info taken from Bob Mannel's small block Ford V8 guide... C8AE-6015-A is a 302 block cast in Cleveland that was phased in starting for late '67 289 production and continued on into '68 for 302 production... C8AE-6015-B blocks are Windsor castings that were likely intended for 302 production and have 302 in the valley, but in actuality are 289(I have one of these)... For '68 production Windsor built the 289 as it's only small block & Cleveland built 302 as it's only small block...
