Has anybody installed one of these on a steering column? I just started shopping around for one and I like this model. But I came across this review online - [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Sunpro-CP7906-Mini-Super-Tachometer/dp/B00029JYS8/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header"]http://www.amazon.com/Sunpro-CP7906-Mini-Super-Tachometer/dp/B00029JYS8/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header[/ame] "Check out the customer images". Any thoughts? I'd like to mount it on the steering column, but what is the purpose of those 2 tabs?

It's a pretty common tach, I think it's a little small, for easy viewing while driving.
I bought one, to do the gauge cluster conversion, which I haven't done yet.

I have the bigger version installed on my column. It's not the greatest tach but I got mine for free so can't complain. You can't really see the gauges on mine well, but my Speedo reads way off do to a gear change and gas gauge doesn't work do to a fuel cell. But maybe with themini tach you'll be able to see them.

Yeah thats why I was leaning toward the mini version. After all the work I've done and with the new torque converter I'm curious to see where I'm at. But did you see the one customers image on that amazon site where he is complaining about the two tabs?

That is a fix but its just a preference of mine to have it where I can see the road and needle at the same time. Checking my speed isn't that important to me as I'm rarely doing the speed limit:chirp:

I have the autometer version at 9 o clock, and its very easy to see... I rotated the gauge so when I need to shift the pointer will be pointing straight up at 12 o clock... so even at a glance its visible

Does anybody know what the two tabs are for? If you are just using a large hose clamp, the tabs seems like they would be in the way.

I don't know what they're for but couldn't you just cut em off?

Is there a hole in those tabs? My autometer had a slot for the hose clap to go thru...

That is for attaching the tac on a mounting plate used to screw it directly to a flat surface (like the dash) just clamp down on top of them. or go ahead and cut them off. wont hurt a thing.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
It's not lame it's brilliant. Just by having those tabs they can easily offer an adapter for people who mount it on a flat surface, which is about 2/3 of their market. Well that's my guess by just the ones I see at car shows, 2/3 of the cars who have them are on a flat surface.

So by just having those tabs they increase their market and profits by 2/3, it's like instead of earning $10 an hour you'll earn $30.

Here's a picture of the adapter, if anyone needs the bracket, adapter, gasket and bolt I have an extra set($6 shipped anywhere in the US)

The first sun pro tach I bought died after a couple of weeks so I had to buy another one. That's why I have an extra bracket set. I mounted mine on the column and the worm clamp has had no issues with those tabs, it's been on since 2006.

Wouldn't it be brilliant if they had slots in the tabs for the clamp to slide through though? Do you have a picture of the tach on your steering column?
