U bolts came loose!!! and figured out why.

    I was getting a clunk in the back of the Comet recently and started checking things out. Found the ubolts had come loose but that seemed odd because every spring i nut and bolt the car to avoid things like this. Low and behold a little further inspection found the spring perches on the axle have collapsed!! Now have to cut off the crushed ones and weld on some new ones,should be fun getting the pinion angle right:bs:

    Been there done that :( Those dropping the clutch at 5 grand tends to find the weak points. I actually collapsed the axle tube once as well.

    Get your spring perches from Calvert Racing and you won't collapse them again.....

    Same here, bent one and broke off the other. I put the rear up on a level mill table and used a good protractor to get the angle right. IIRC, the pinion was down 3* with the perches level. Then I welded reinforcements between the tubes and the tops of the perches.
    You can just put the rear on a pair of jackstands that are shimmed to level.

    Awsome thanks for the hints guys.Already picked up a pair of Comp Engineering ones but i will definately box them in.Going to get fresh ubolts and center pins while i'm at it,cheap insurance.
