So I noticed an exhaust leak a few days ago... Pinpointed it to around the flange where the exhaust connects to the manifold. So I decided to upgrade the whole exhaust, just for fun. I took it to the local exhaust shop and had them change out my stock muffler for a Flowmaster 40 Series and replace the whole exhaust with 2 1/2"... I was HIGHLY impressed with the new sound! Total price seemed a bit high, but I ended up paying $312 for the whole works. I didn't get hosed did I? Still, I love the new sound.
312 sounds kinda high unless you had the manifold replaced. On a 4.0 you have to pull the intake to replace the exhaust manifold. I had a straight pipe on my 96 sound awesome especially between shifts (mines a 5spd) but was too loud for the street.
Ours has a little leak in that same spot. Not too bad, so it's gonna have to leak a while longer. Put a new muffler on ours a while back, went with a turbo style, sounds good without being too loud....
It honestly never occurred to me to get headers for it! I replaced the pipe from the manifold to the catalytic converter, a little offset pipe from the cat to the muffler. Found out the exhaust pipe from the muffler to the outlet was stainless. Never knew it was stainless, even though it looks corroded. (At least, that's what the guy told me ) Maybe down the road I'll get headers for it. I looked them up on the internet and they're around $200 for a decent set.
Here's a video I took about 2 hours ago. It's not very loud but has that awesome rumble I was looking for!! http://youtu.be/5zi6BJGGXvU
ok the 40's are 70-80$ buy it's self did they replace all the exhaust pipe including over the rear end because they charge $100 at some shop per pipe around here if they didn't run new pipe all the way back to the rear i would take it back demand that they do it because that's B.S only replacing 3 feet of pipe and charging that much $$$$ ?
Nope. They only replaced pipe from the manifold to the muffler. (they didn't replace my catalytic converter)
I think that price is repectable, seeing you had the whole exhaust replaced with, a Flowmaster muffler, to boot. The days of cheap exhaust work are about over. I know there are some shops that still give a good deal but, they are not that easy to find, these days.
