When I rebuilt my 302 this winter, I knew I was going to use an electric fuel pump so I decided to not put the cam that runs the mechanical fuel pump back on the cam gear. Is this going to cause a balance issue? I have a vibration issue, I know i have several things causing vibrations that i'm fixing, just wondering if could be an issue also.
I left mine off on my 89 5.0 roller motor. Didnt have a problem. Then later I went and put one on it run a mechanical pump and still no problem. Check that you have the correct balance on flywheel and harmonic balancer. They need to match the crank that was used.
the harmonic balancer is the one that came off the crank. the flex plate came off the 75 6cly that was in the car. this motor is a 77 that had a manual trans. i think the 75 and the 77 have the same balance spec.
you have the wrong flex plate.if your 302 is a 77 and you are useing the crank from the 77 302 then you will need the 28 oz. imbalance flex plate.
Yep the 6 cyl 250 uses a 0 balance flexplate and the 302 uses the 28oz flexplate. they are physically the same size and tooth count but the 6cyl flexplate does not have the offset weight that is needed.
I will also add, do not continue to run the engine untill you get the right flexplate on it or it will beat the bearings out of it
the plate is from a 75 6cyl 200cdi i thought it had the weight on the plate, witch side of the plate has the weight converter or motor? does anyone no of anyone has the correct plate for sale?
That's what i figured...just grasping at straws... I have only run the motor about 2hrs, and most of that has been idling. hopefully nothing has been damaged
Dude your killing me my ignorance on this littel issue makes me want to bang my head against the wall till i pass out. its been 28 yrs since i have bult a street rod like this. it was supoes to be a learning experance for my sun but i think all he has learned is what not to do. He has been great about this, i told him what i messed up, he shruged an want'ed to know when do we start, he is a dam good kid
I think the more you screw up the more you learn. Not likely to make the same mistake twice. Cant wait till my kid is old enough to help me screw things up on my cars.
