hi folks, has anyone read this mag..."AUTO RESTORER"... i got an offer to subscribe to it. it sounds like it has a lot of info. we could use. i don't know how they got my address but they did. thanks for any opinions ...frank...
Frank: I subscribed to Aoto Restorer for a couple years. I dropped my subscribtion. I really didn't see much in it for me. I thought it was to expensive for what I received.
is that the one that's a newsletter about 6-8 pages. sounded good when i got othe offer but i didn't see where i was going to use too much from it myself.
Maybe I'm the oddball here. I've been subscribing for a couple years now. I find the mag very informative and enjoyable to read. I've found several very pertinant articles over the months to things we would like to know. I intend to keep subscribing.
I`ve read a bunch of the old ones and I realy liked it. They got my address too and sent me an offer to subscribe to it but I didn`t have the money .
"very pertinant articles" wes, what did you have to do to get that "pertinant" out of those articles ??? can you do it with common hand tools or do you have to have "special" tools?...frank...
I subscribed to that mag when it was just a gray type magazine. In my opinion it was good at that time. Then they went to a format of no advertising and a real glossy look. Just pics of cars and no details on how they got perfect. That has been some time ago. Am surprised they are still around. Maybe have to look at again. Dan
Ok, so I don't get an "A" in spelling!! Actually, I pried it out with a pry bar, so there!! Any magazine is only as good as what you get out of it. I subscribed to "Legendary Fords" when it came out last year. The pix are magnificent (I spelled that right, Frank), but I didn't feel it was worth the high subscription cost especially as it isn't a monthly mag. Some don't feel that "Auto Restorer" is worth the cost because they don't get what they expect out of it. That's ok. I like it a lot and feel it is worth the cost. I also get "Old Cars Weekly News & Marketplace". It is published by the same folks that print "Old Cars" magazine, but it is a weekly newspaper..lots of good articles and classifieds. I've found several Mavs for sale there over time and passed them along on the forum here. There's a lot of magazines and periodicals (I spelled that one right, also) out there so it takes some trial and error to find the ones that suit each of us best.
wes, i didn't know if it was spelled right or not .i just don't have a clue what a "pertinant article" is ...my bad...frank...
Basically, just an article that has info that pertains to the things we would be interested in. Stuff like rust preventatives, tech articles, etc. What I like about this mag is that most of the articles come from guys just like us that have found a better way to do something or know of a product that works well. One guy a while ago did a test comparing Eastwood Rust Encapsulator to POR-15. He did a scientific like simulation of outdoor extremes over a 6 month period that simulated a couple years of exposure. It was pretty good and is somewhat typical of the quality of the articles in this mag.
That is good info Wes, do you know if Auto Restorer is on the magazine rack? Or is it just available subscription wise? With articles like you just explained it sounds as if that is a mag I will enjoy. Dan
