So My Wife and I went a road trippin.. Drove from LAX to Mammoth..Highway 395 up the east side of the California High Sierra.. There are vast expanses of dessert...ancient sea floor..then accross the beeeyatch up the Hwy 120 Tioga Pass 9,945 ft elevation... down into Yosemite Valley... then 115 miles of twisty 7,000 ft mountain road down Highway 41 down into Fresno.. then the highway 99 all the way back.... In Yosemite I thought I was a badass in my old car then a pack of Ford Model T's or B's came through....!!!! Yosemite is cool El Capitan and Half Dome rising above the valley floor 3-5,000 feet straight up.. I take lots of spares in the trunk and basic hand tools.. very pleased with the reliability of my 200 6.. The giant tranny cooler I put in rocked... new nada discs, front end moog rebuild.. good times.

Your car is carbureted, right? Guess it handled the elevations changes OK?

Yes, carb.. one mighty barrel. Much power loss at elevation. But no change in idle rpms..Covered wagons with settlers and nuns in wheelchairs were passing us up on the hills..The biggy was the tranny (C4 Auto) wanted to shift waaaay late.(screeching belt..) I learned I had to manualy go from 1st to second. .and then keep it there till rpms called for 3rd. Must be the vaccuum doo hicky on the tranny sucking the thin air at elevation.

Some really nice photos ... If that was my car, that 3rd one would be my computer background shot.

I have always wanted to go to there and Yellowstone. Looks awesome.

Yosemite is definitely beautiful! I was looking for some of my pics but can't find them. We have a special spot on the backside(no jokes:)) of Yosemite where not all of the tourists go and it is Awesome.

Great pics. When I get mine finished I want to hit east Tn and cruise the mountains. My dad took me and my sister all over the Smokys in his Maverick when we were little. Never a problem even on the steepest roads.

    You mean like this ....

    dragoncurve_original.jpg

Fun day!... click for the big pic, and catch the grin, the angle of the dreamcatcher (wife's car ... ) and her trying to hang on while video taping the ride. The Stang was new, and the Pirellis fresh. That road is 13 miles and over 300 turns, and will wear you out if you are pushing hard. They do hold events on it from time to time.

Smoky Mountains ... saw a lot of them as kid ... yearly trip 2.5 day trip, from Chicago to St. Pete, FL, packed into the back of a 64 Olds with my bratty younger sisters.... no a/c... usually had the comic books and car mags memorized by the second day.

Everyone in the car got pretty chilled out by when we would hit the Smokys ... even on the return trips.
