... I was in the jy yesterday, filling my bloodlust with fresh kill ... a 77 Mav hit the yard ... the odo read only 53K miles, and I believe it. The gas and brake pedal pads were like brand new ... the interior was a fresh as a 35 year old car could be. Snooping around, I found a Michigan lotto ticket from way back, buried in the back seat.

A- Ha! that explains why this low mileage car rotted from the bottom up!

The bumpers were only hanging on by one side each ... the massive supports had almost fully rotted through.

Whole chunks of chassis .... missing ....

I got so involved in grabbing stuff off this car, and fighting rust, I didn't notice that the yard had closed. .... I was locked in. 6PM Saturday ... I was pretty sure it was only 4 by the height of the sun ... pretty sure I was sun-baked too.

I beat on the office window ... darkness. Electric fence surrounds the yard. I resign myself to leaving my tools in the wheelbarrow, covered with a pile of parts, and start to write a note. My next plan was to scale the 10 foot gate, if not coursing with "9000 volts", like the fence, throw my t-shirt over the barbed wire at the top, and go home.

Did I mention my cell phone was in the truck? Didn't want to lose it under a car .... It is why I didn't know what time it was either. ...

That is when the assistant manager emerges from behind a car .... "What'r still doing here?" .... apologies ... followed by further beratement and embarassment .... he lets me grab my tools and we head out through the office.

I came back first thing this morning to buy my stuff.

Of course, it was the same guy who let me out, who unlocked the door for me this morning. .... He didn't recognize me right away ... I was all cleaned up and looked way different from when he last was cussing me out.

Made it a point to shake his hand, and thank him for being so gracious.... apologized again. I deserved everything I got from him, and he really didn't lay it on that thick.

I am quite sure his purpose for actually being there last night was to be able to call the cops when the theif who was hiding in the yard (hey, that truck was still there ...) would actually start throwing parts over the fence.

I am pretty sure he was pretty amused watch my hystronics as I realized that I was quite screwed last night.... :rofl2: Probably had a few chuckles for the rest of the night.

Those of you who know me, can tell you that I am naturally a pretty over-the-top, animated guy. I am sure I put on quite a show for him ....

Man this made me laugh so much more because this almost happened to me. The yard I was out kept announcing warnings over the PA system. 1 hour to close, 30 minutes to close, then nothing. The guy at the counter forgot to announce again until after they were supposed to be closed. Me and about 5 other people were scrambling to get our parts to the counter when the PA announces "We closed 15 minutes ago, you've got 2 minutes until we lock the gates".

They let us all pay for our parts though.
