As some of you know I lifted a head on the mav. My dilemma is I have cast piston in my engine, I currently have E7TE heads on it. I have a set of Trick Flow twisted wedge cnc 185 heads in the box in my closet. I really want to put the trick flows on but I'm afraid the pistons may come apart and ruin them. So which heads would you put on if in a similar situation?

If you are planning on it coming apart, the e7s.

I was going to ask this on another thread, but appropriate here.

302 blocks split at 500 hp +/-. Are the 5.0 blocks stronger?

You are forced induction, so you are probably pretty close to the upper limit if you have the boost up.

I want to see a better picture of your setup. That pic is too small. Pleeeeeeease?

I don't plan on my pistons coming apart but with boost its always a possibility. I believe that the 5.0 blocks split at about 600fwhp. I'm running 10 psi have no idea what my hp is but it hauls a$$ now! I never took pics of the finished product as I got too excited to drive it, but here is the build thread http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=85555

If your worried about melting down the pistons...Put good ones in it...Or stay with the cast iron heads...

Check the piston to valve clearance before but definitely go with TFS heads like Frank said..

Good flowing heads are a turbo's best friend. They will actually affect a lot of things from power to spool time and even timing as you'll get more leeway with aluminum.

I'm putting the stock heads back on for now, when it happened I was closer to my parents house then mine so I'm doing it in their drive way. My mom doesn't want my car sitting in their drive way for 2 weeks waiting for parts. I'm going to get a junk yard motor and do a cheapy rebuild on it with pistons and cam that would be more suited for a turbo.

The only drawback to aluminum heads on an iron block is sealing. You'll have to really pay attention to gasket selection and bolt torque, plus your engine temps. Stay away from Felpro's Print-O-Seal head gaskets for this. The O.E. style expanded graphite's coated with Kopper Cote work wonders.

The stock E7's will take you past block splitting territory no sense in killing a good set of heads WHEN it looses a piston or rod its not a matter of if but a matter of when
