so today im finally getting around to mailing my maverick/comet club international, inc form but i have always been finicky about sending my cars serial number, im sure its a legit inc but how will they use my cars serial number?
Just send the first 5 numbers/letters if your not comfortable with it. That indicates year, plant, model and engine.
The MCCI would use the serial number strictly for statistical info. The first 5 of the VIN would be very helpful in accessing that. The last 6 of the VIN are not real necessary. The MCCI would use that just to guage roughly when the car was built.
serial numbers are really not that big of a deal, any person can go to a carshow and peek thru your windshield and write it down if they really wanted it....
Or a parking lot. I also don't understand why people cover up their license plate when they take a picture of their car. Its exposed when they drive or park it. What's the risk?
People also blank out the plates so you can't search the plates and find out where my car is parked to come steal it. It's a method to keep yourself safe while online.
People are covering the serial numbers. Anyone can take the serial number to the dealer and have a key made for a late model car.
I only had a key made once by a dealer (Crossroad Fords) but they did make me prove ownership. Guess some dealers aren't so responsible. Or, if the thief works at the dealership he probably could get the key.
Late model cars...I might understand but these are 70's era cars. You could use a auto tumbler to open locks and a shaved key to start if you wanted too. That being said, there are alot of ways to steal a car if one really wanted to. Insurance is the only way to cover this loss, worrying about it wont help. I dunno, but my life's to short to worry about everything that could go wrong, I mean someone busted out all my windows and slashed my tires couldn't of stopped it...now it happened dealing with it. Stop worrying, enjoy life ! Enjoy your car!
