Issue: My gas gauge went to empty the other day. Prior it would only read about 3/4s full after I filled up. However I assumed that was because of the pump rate and splash that's common because of the neck etc. Anyway it was reading E so I filled it after not driving it awhile. I know its full now but it still reads E. I ck'd the wiring and nothing. Even touched the ground to the hot and the needle went right up to F. So I know I have a current etc. So I ground off a spot on the frame railand connected the ground to that and the needle still reads E (dead left).
So ... Now what should I do to see what's up? I hate electrical!
Thanks for any and all assistance.

I would start by checking continuety (sp) on the wires. To me it sounds like maybe you have a bad ground wire but it could also be a hot wire. Trace back the continuety until you find out where the wire is either broken or torn, solder back together, then heat shrink it.

    Good luck,
    Bobo

ps I really hate electrical also

Or the sender float isn't floating.

That would be my guess, that the float has a pinhole in it.

You went far enough by grounding the sender wire and seeing the needle go up to full. If your ground is good at the tank, then the sender is bad. I love electrical.

Its relatively new! I cant believe that! Thats too much. So I need to drain the thing, take out the unit/ck the float? Gosh I maybe ran one tank of gas through the thing! Still can't believe it...really? If anyone thinks it might be something else let me know as I hate to pull that all out if its something easier. Ughhhh!!!

its pretty easy to tell after tanks draind and u take thr sending unit out just plug it up and move the rod on the sending unit and see if the gauge moves if so the floats bad

On mine I wasn't getting a good ground at the sender so I soldered a male tab terminal to the sender plate and ran a ground wire with a female Fast-on to it.

Thanks. Can you just touch a wire to the plate and to a ground location and tell if that works?

Well I hope nobody held their breath--I tried to ground the sender and nothing AGAIN. Ugh Now to run the tank down and drain.
