I was wondering if anyone here knew about how much should a complete rebuild cost me on a 250 straight 6...Im getting my block bored plateau honed decking the block grinding down crankshaft as well as balancing it..resurfacing the connecting rod bore..as well as the block main bearin bore..on the cylinder head they are going to resurface it port it put new exhaust seats and do a 3 angle valve job on all the seats.valves wil be resurfaced as well.the guy is also gonna weigh out all my pistons and make sure everything weighs the same...I am putting completely everything brand new..only thing that im reusing is crack and connecting rods...im putting new pistons with molly rings, brass freeze plugs..isky performance cam.new valves with new springs and retainers and keepers..new lifters new pushrods pretty much everything braaand new..to get all this done plus the block painted and assembled back together my estimate came up around $1700..and he said for another 300 bucks he would assemble my long block with completely everything and even fire it up to get compression numbers,etc..so around $2,000 bucks is what he told me..those this sounds like a decent price?:hmmm:

    Hmmm....:hmmm:

My 5.0 +.040 cost me 200 freshly rebuilt. Yes, that is a rare occurrence, but my point is there are WAY better deals out there if you just look around. You can buy 5.0s from junk yards for $300 in running condition. You can run them into the ground, or put a couple hundred bucks into "freshening" them up, and still have more engine for less bucks than your guy is offering you.

I recently had 2 250's rebuilt.Bored +.020, new pistons, rings, cam, lifters, 3 angle valve job, painted and assembled for $1250 each.:)
I don't think $1700 is out of the ballpark in California though. Seems they are higher out there.

The rods only have 68,000 miles...the motor only had 68,000 miles but it had lousy lubrication service...but yea California seems to be a little more expensive :hmmm: I am going to see if I can drop the price to 1500 or 1700 around there..

My machinist was going to measure the valves to see if we could re use them but they looked real worn out... my spring arent squared enough and they are worn out as well.....im goin to need new lifters and push rods as well...Im going to talk to him about bringing the labor down...He said he would assemble it all togetehr for 300 bucks so if its more convinient for me I might just do it myself.:hmmm:

this has nothing to do with...worn out... valves, springs, retainers and keepers, lifters, pushrods ...
you should only need to replace...rod/main/cam bearings ...timming chain/gear if worn...new pistons and rings will be to the new bore size...:yup:

"i took an engine rebuild class and I assembled and disassembled an engine ."

you should already have known this...:yup:
