This is the motor i had the rocker oiling problems with. Made a easy first pass since it was the first real run on the motor. Hit it hard on the 2nd run and shut off at 6500. Motor made 337 HP at the wheels and 305 ft torque. Not bad. Also blew the front trans seal. Like a dumb a$$ I didnt change it. Converter sat in the trans for 8 months. Should have know better.
Motor is a 331, scat crank, probe rods, probe flat top pistons, .600 lift solid cam, Holley heads, victor JR intake, and a 650 Holley HP carb. Timing set at 38degs.

I'll run it again after i fix the seal and put a little more timing in it.

Sounds like a nice run. Bummer about the seal.
How much more advance can you go?

I think I might be able to go 40degs. Just got to play with it. Air/fuel was right on the money. Just a little fat.
I dont know the specs on the heads. They were on the car 10 years ago when I bought it. They work great for me so I have never replaced them.
I built the motor to run 12.0 for the NHRA Sportsman class. so with any luck it will be right there. Next motor will be a 10.90 motor in a year or two. maybe a 408. Money and time will tell.

Is that dyno cursed or what? First Gene pops a head gasket now you blow a trans seal. Guess you can take part of the blame for that one though. Watch what happens when you bring in more timing. I went up another couple degrees at the dyno day and lost power.

You bested my runs by 39hp. Its a good amount of power but for what it is and the money spent I would have wanted more. I run an original stock bottom end and a .502 lift 236 @.50 cam.

The dyno guy said with the converter I got the numbers will look low. He figured about 405 at the crank, maybe more. No bad on 91 pump gas.

silly power robbing automatics. What you gotta do to be consistent though. But then if its consistency you are after then who cares how fast you are. I just dont get bracket racing.

Come on guys Bracket racing is for us guy and gals that dont have the money to go fast. it's simple math. If im better on the light and i can build a car thats more consistant, I win. It doesnt pay to sand bag cuz i'll still beat you with consistancy. It's a blast.
I dont think it would be as much fun if you know you are going to win. If your .3 faster than the next guy, you sleep on the tree and still win, what fun is that. I have won and lost by .0003. Now that fun racing.

So, this is my take on bracket racing...........I take my 9.80 Maverick to the track......I dial in a 10.50.............doesn't make any difference how consistant you are (even of you are .05 at the tree and I'm .10)..................I'll catch you on the top end.........and now that I have 4 wheel disc brakes..............I can slow the car down and still not break out....................IMHO
