I want to go through the front end, as in replacing or changing everything. So i found out, it's almost asmuch to buy a stock frontend, as it is to do a mustangII front end swap. I'd like to know from you all, what would be the better way to go? I have a '70 Mav and plan on putting a V8 small block in it. I have a stock 302, but after reading the HotRod stuff about the 363 Dart block, I'm kindof leaning that way. As of now, tho, I have a stright 200cu. What do you all think?
When i swapped out my six cyl for a V8. I bought a front end suspension kit from PST. http://www.p-s-t.com/ Everything fit no problem. They have standard kits and also kits with polyurethane bushings. Good luck.
i would think that rebuilding the stock front end would be about a 1/3rd of the cost of a m2 swap. also the labor of just replacing the stock stuff is allot less and easier. where to do the m2 there is cutting and welding involved.
I guess it boils down to how much money you want to spend on the front end and what your intended use is going to be. I have just rebuilt my front end (mainly because it is almost 40 years old also because I needed front disc brakes) with Global West lower control arm with screw in ball joints and spherical bearings and the strut rod which was totally worn out. The cost of both of these was about $900. A lot less than the MII and more expensive than a standard rebuild kit, plus you will still need to buy upper ball joints. Take a look at their site, www.globalwest.net Just another option.
thank you all for responding, I guess i should just replace the worn out stuff little by little. I still dont know if i'll be able to drop in a 363 or something bigger. For right now, I just want to drive it! Every time I'm out I always get looks and finger pointing, I love it, and so does my wife. She had never ever hear about a Maverick untill she met me, now she's like "wow look at all thoes people checkin' out the Mav"!
Ok I was fairly interested in this for awhile and I decided not to do the mustang II kit at this point in my cars life. First of all, yes the cheap universal mustang II front suspension kits run anywhere from $800 to $1200 on ebay. Now there are some funny things about some of those kits, some of them are missing things like crossmembers that you have to buy, or they dont include steering components so you have to buy a seperate rack and pinion. But then say you get one of the more complete kits and that puts you into the $1200 to $1800. These are the ones that have the rack and pinion included, brakes and such included but, you still have to potentially buy things like steering shafts and things like that. Now with all those kits they are generic do it yourself kits or they fit the standard cars, the 65 mustang, the 32 ford, the 55 chebby pickup ect ect. So you have to spend the time cutting the old front end apart and then measuring the front end cutting and making everything fit and work the way its supposed too. And then you still have to do things like fill in the holes left from where you cut the shock towers out ect ect ect. So you definitely have allot more time involved in one of those setups then rebuilding the stock setup. Now there is a but too all of this, and that is but what about the Maverick specific kits.. Yes there are a few of them that several individuals have used on here. Yes they are very high quality units and they are very complete and have all the components and all the directions to make your car a Mustang II front suspension. But they also start out about $2000 and can easily go higher. The Rod and Custom setup I was looking at, the RC 106 (its cheaper then the RC 107) has a price of $2395. http://www.rcmotorsportsinc.com/rod__custom.pdf So if you are doing a mild suspension build for a V8 and dont want to go with a huge engine the general consensus is to stay with stock. Heck its good enough some classic mustangs have been racing around the track at Seca Laguna speedway on it for 40+ years. Oh and you know the Dart 363 is based on a 5.0... so It will fit right in your engine bay without a problem.. http://www.stangtv.com/tech-stories...363ci-short-block-and-top-end-for-a-fox-body/
