What kind of tach do you have and did you make sure the tach was set on 8 cylinders? I bought a cheap one and thought the tach was bad and then found out it was set for a 4 cylinder, switched it to 8 and it worked properly.

Good thought on he tach .It's a cheep Sun tach and now that I think about it MSD has a list of tachs. I'll try unplugging the tach and see if it makes any difference.

It was a while ago. I don't think it had a select on it. I bought it from this guy for ten bucks. I just remember it was big. I already had the car running for a while so I could totally notice the difference after I wired it in. The dyno shop gapped my plugs at 52 and my car runs fine btw

:huh:Still looking for the Stabber's problem. I disconnected the tach and nothing changed. A friend suggested maybe a vacumm leak ( it is a fresh motor maybe 25 miles). So I sprayed starting fluid around all the likely spots. No noticable change

You can bypass the MSD altogether to test the ignition system. The cars I installed them on have a bypass adapter that plugs in to allow the car to run without the box. Some road and endurance racers run 2 boxes that they can switch on the fly in case of a failure.

But you may have another problem. What makes you think the MSD is at fault? What other tests have you run?

The big reason I was looking at the ignition system is that I could not get the motor to run with more that .035 gap on the plugs . MSD recomends .045 to .050 on a motor with 9.5 : 1 comp. It seemed to me it should be able to run with the recomended gap. Even @ .035 I can't get it to idle @ less than 1000 rpm and it stumbles on acceleration . I'm not 100% it's the spark ...but hey you gotta start somewhere
