if they are ceramic coated, do they need to be...heat cycled?

    ...:chirp:...

they say dont do a new motor brake in on the new ceramic coating. there is no heat cycle required to finish cure or any thing like that

My understanding is that normal operation cures them. I have never done anything special to cure ceramic coated headers, manifolds shouldn't be any different. If anything, manifolds run cooler.

You can overheat headers during the cam break in process, since the engine is at high idle for a substantial length of time, but you shouldn't have that issue.

well I've been on the "net" looking for "opinions"...
most say not to break in new motors with...coated headers/manifolds.
but for the people that have, no one had a problem. I could not find anyone that posted any pics of damage or mention of any problems...

We had a 07 GT500 with a tune that this guy drove the absolute crap out of and the ceramic coating dulled and discolored, but I don't use him as the norm. I'm sure they'll be fine.

After seeing my new headers turn cherry red hot when I first started my motor (years ago), and the paint floating off once it cooled.. I am not so sure I would want to have any NEW/COATED header or manifold on it to start with. I think I would run them once all is good and just let them heat up and cool down normaly. Are there no instructions when someone buys coated manifolds?

Gene Buddy, I sent the manifolds off and had them coated while I did a rear disc brake swap...:yup:

So what I am saying I would do is put them on and let them heat and cool.. since your engine is already broke in and tuned.. The 150* sounds good to me too.. Doesn't your oven go higher than that though?

So you're saying that your engine is "broken" not "broke in". :D:rofl2:
