we just installed new frame rails, springs 8 inch 380 posi, new brake shoes and all hardware including wheel cylinders, shocks on and on. for some reason on the test drive tonite we get a howl at about 45-50 mph. any ideas? sounds like it could be coming from rear of car. we installed new glass pacs and the need turn downs on them because the point at the rearend housing. any chance this is from the heat of the exaust thinning the rear end fluid? just a guess. i filled the rear end up to the plug hole ,is it possible it will need more? any thoughts would be valuable. Thanks.
wheel bearing maybe? put it on a two post lift and run it. did you do a...break in...on the new gears? http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=83425&highlight=rear+gear+break Frank...
an improperly gear set will howl. in my experience when you get a howl on at those speeds its a poorly made gear set and there is nothing you can do to get rid of it. these days with all manufacturing being sent over seas its become impossible to guarantee that we will be able to get a good quiet gear set while doing the brake in is highly recommend it will not change the noise. you can not drive the noise out of the gear set
