Hi All, I am new to the forum - I have a 1973 Maverick 4 door with a 250 inline six - I am hoping someone here can help me - the car idles and drives great, but when you come to a complete stop, then give her some gas, the car acts like she doesn't want to take the gas, like a hiccup (I just changed the filter thinking that was the cause) and then she takes the gas a goes, but this happens every time i come to a complete stop, or make a slow turn - any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Ditto the accelerator pump adjustment...Also...If it likes to cut out around corners or abrupt stops...float level may be too low.
Make shure you only adjust one thing at a time and drive it. (Do the accelerator pump first) and see what you get.
thank will do - I figured the accelerator pump was the easiest to start with too - I don't want to take the carb apart yet (if it happens to be the float, I figured I'd do a full rebuild while I was at it)
I figured I'd do a full rebuild while I was at it)[/QUOTE] I wud agree on the pump, and maybe, the float needs adj. or has a hole. I wud also do a complete carb kit if I took it apart.
Welcome, and say hello to the Carter rbs blues! I've been trying to get this out of mine for years! It's just a poor design. I would get a carb kit, and replace the accelerator pump plunger. That will be a start. They wear out and don't provide enough fuel on acceleration. I have never been able to get mine " perfect ", but at least now it's acceptable!
