I recently bought a 1971 Ford Maverick alledgely with the original 302 Engine in it that was rebuilt. But when they rebuilt it they changed the compression ratio of the piston & changed the cam. Does anyone know how to find out the horsepower the engine might make? 2nd question it has a 600 cfm elderbrook carb on it does anyone know if changing it bigger or smaller will help or hurt the power? Thanks for your help Joe
What you are going to do with this car would determine any more work/changes to be done. Daily driver? Weekend driver? All out 100% drag car? Each one would be set up and equiped differently.
Welcome to the board. 600 should be okay for your purpose. I doubt they changed the cam and compression to be too radical.
Agreed. With what you intend to do with the car...just leave it as is. I bet when they rebuilt it, they did not necessairly change the compression ratio of the pistons. I bet they just put oversize pistons in it (like .030 over). Pretty common with a rebuild. Probably put a little better than a stock cam in it. The only thing I would consider is maybe adding some headers....but that would be it.
