I use my car as a daily driver. I have double adjustable shocks in the back and front. The front drives well even though a little stiff set at 60/40. The rear has 4 leaf springs which I upgraded from the old saggy stock 3-leaf springs. The rear shocks are set to 60/40 as well. Now, when the gas tank is full to the brim the ride is REALLY nice. So my question is HOW can I get that kind of a ride without having the tank full. I'm assuming the extra weight of the rear is either overcoming the springs or the shocks, but which is it? Should I remove one of the leafs? Should I change the shock settings?
don't have an answer but I have 4 leaves cut down to 3 and have stock type shocks. my ride is better with a half-full tank of gas...
Unfortunately, weight alters the springs response and the dampening effect of the shocks. I would do what Frank did and tune the suspension with half a tank of fuel so that you get more of a balance of stiff vs soft. As long as it doesn't bottom out with a full tank you should be ok. If you don't like it set there, you might try to take a leaf out of the spring and stiffen the shock setting to get the same effect.
I think I might cut them down to 3. The front is going to need some help too but it's actually pretty nice. When I ordered my springs for the front I got them with a 450 spring rate which is a little too stiff. Going to try some softer ones.
