what do i search when trying to get some? a mustang of some year? or does anybody have any they would like to sell me?
I've got Lakewoods on mine for a 67-70 Stang. These are the direct fit that replace the spring/shock mount plate.
Since you have a 70, If you find a set and they are the type that replace the lower spring plate make sure they have provisions for the 70 non staggered shocks.
You can get them cheap from the auto parts stores, or ebay/amazon. here is a listing from amazon in the $50 range. Universal traction bars... Two things to remember with slapper bars. 1. I personally would avoid the ones pictured above (no offense scooper). They don't work as well as the ones that bolt right to the axle by replacing the spring perch clamp. 2. Make sure that the rubber snubber part locates against the front eyelet of the spring. Sometimes you have to weld on a short piece of box tubing to lengthen them. I've used them many times over the years and they can be made to work, just watch for the two things that I've noted above. Then once those are taken care of, work on loosening up the front end so it moves easily and get some 3 way adjustable shocks for both ends. Let the suspension tuning begin!
No, mine are direct fit, and replace the spring/shock mount plate under the axle. I bought em for a 67 Stang, but sold the car and kept them and used them when I bought my 77 Comet
i love the look of them on your car..but when i was debating them before i did a search on here and came across a thread which said the universals don't line up correctly, is this true? because if they line up perfectly fine..there was a set of lakewood's here local for $50 brand new.
As MNTony said sometimes you have to extend the tube that the rubber snubber is bolted on so that the rubber snubber hits on the front spring eyelet, if they hit behind it for a performance standpoint they are not at there optimum, also if you are going to be racing your car there has to be somekind of device to keep the front of the bars from hitting the pavement incase of breakage, some people weld a bar and use a ubolt others have devised a method using chain. Universal may fit but more than likely they wont be right
I have the universal ones on my car but they have been modified considerably to fit better. Under acceleration. At rest
