Is there a 1 piece carpet kit for a 69.5 transmission tunnel? I really hate to put a two piece carpet kit in, and would like to find a 1 piece that will fit narrow tunnel. :thumbs2:

You are out of luck.....I have a 69.5, and had to get a two piece kit and work the front half. You could build up the tunnel with insulation or screw in some spacing. Seems like no one makes a good fitting kit for our cars.

I did have one seller swear that they had one to fit my 69.5 tunnel but, when asked 4 months later, the same guy said that they were all the same. I would have to say no to your question.

I did do major surgery on my tunnel, for a reason not related to carpet fitting, and swapped in a larger tunnel from a 1972 so when I ordered my carpet, I just ordered one for a 72 and it should now fit fine :)

Damn, so should I just get flat carpet, and form it myself to the tunnels? Or is that way to much work? How much of a difference is in the 70 tunnel vs 69 tunnel? Is it really noticeable?

I think the 69.5 - 70 tunnel is the same since both are titled as 1970's. If you do a search on the 69.5 carpet subject, you should be able to come up with posts dealing with adding more insulation over the tunnel which helps with the fitment. Flat carpeting would be a nightmare to get to fit snug.

I'm sure someone who has been able to succesfully fit carpeting in a 69.5 will chime in soon :)

No way would I get flat carpet and install it. Get form fitted carpet for a Maverick. It will fit well enough.

I recently installed an ACC one piece kit in my 70 Maverick which has the same narrow tunnel. I used some layers of dense foam carpet padding and some 3m spray adhesive to fit it tighlty to the tunnel and installed the carpet over it. I had to test fit the carpet a few times but in the end I think it turned out pretty well. There is a picture of the finished interior in my gallery if you want to see how it can look. I searched everywhere for a kit specifically for the 69.5 and 70 model but nobody makes one. I think you will be very disappointed if your try to use flat carpet.

    Take care -

I purchased the kit through automotivecarpet.com and found that they are a direct supplier for ACC carpet and have been for over 12 years. They looked up the part numbers for the 69/70 2dr model and found that they were the identical number found for the 71-73 version. The number was different for 74-77 when they changed from loop to cut pile. They do not make any carpet specific to the narrower tunnel on the 69 & 70 model.

    Hope this helps -

If not carpet, what was the reason for the trans tunnel swap?....

    and how difficult was it?

I've got a 69.5, and am wondering if, with all the trouble the narrow tunnels causes for trans swaps, ....and carpet, if it might be worth doing before I run into those problems.

The reason was that most of my Hurst V-Gate shifter, including parts of the gate was sticking through the left side of the tunnel. The hole was so big that the boot wouldn't cover it all. Now only the shifter will stick through the top of the 72 tunnel. The bonus part of it was I could order a carpet that would fit better.

If you can get a large enough piece of donor tunnel that includes a little part of the floor boards, it wouldn't be that hard but now I have to build a custom trans crossmember. :)

No, the Hurst Verti-Gate is a massive shifter with all of the mechanics under the floor. I'm almost certain you will have no problems installing a normal 4 speed shifter :)
