im trying to finish up my hurst promatic installation and i was wondering what size hole i need to put in the floor to feed the cable though so it dosnt kink. i dont have a tool big enough to cut a hole on the floor to put in the gromet that came with it so im going to have to go out and pick up a smaller gromet.
I drilled a hole just big enough to fit the cable end thru, secured the cable so it doesn't "saw" back and forth in operation, sealed it with Permatex Ultra blue RTV. Working fine for 4 years now.
does it matter how close the hole is to the shifter? the hole i cut makes it bind when i comes of the shifter its about an inch away from the shifter, and it wants to bend in the opposite direction i want it to go
Mines way back behind the shifter, between the driver's side seat and the tunnel where it made the most sense in cable routing. My car's no beauty queen though, so I really cared not where the hole needed to be for asthetics.
Mines a B&M truck shifter :16suspect adapted to the Comet's tunnel, don't laugh, it was cheap.But it works. And the stainless mud pan ****er cover looks great when the sun hits it just right. :Handshake

HAve the promatic2 in my mav as i saved it from my first mav 20 plus years ago. It comes with a template for the hole. You can donwload the instructions from Hurst. You cant really change the position of the hole. The cable is short and stiff between the shifter and floor. I will tell you that on both of my cars the hole goes through the edge of the heavy plate in the trans tunnel. Its quite thick. I elongated the hole in my floor towards the front of car. since we dont have much room between the floor and trans. Otherwise the cable rubs hard on the front of the opening due to the angle. Its a real easy install. Did mine over my lunch hour but it was my second go round even though 20 years later. This was just after install. Personalized my shifter.
thanx, i ended up doing just that a few minutes ago, turned the two holes i cut into an oval and put some small rubber tubing around the edge so the cable dosnt chafe. no bind and the shifter fits like a glove now. only thing left to do is to loop the rest of the cable and hook it all up.
