Unfortunately, Steve, I don't have any actual pix. Wish I did. There is a Ford brochure out there marketing the police version from the late '70s that I'm dying to get my hands on if I can ever find a copy of one. The fact of the matter is that from a marketing standpoint, the police version Mav was a dismal failure for Ford. It was basically a showroom model and sold poorly as departments wanted a performance package model for the obvious reasons. The Nova of the time had such a package and sold well. LA County, for example, bought a ton of them. NYPD bought Mavs as unmarked cars and sold them very soon after completely disatisfied. I kept the 250 car basically stock to keep the 'plain Jane' appearance. They did offer the 250 as one of the versions available.

Hey Wes.... did you paint the side marker bezels black? Do the bumpers have the rubber strips on them? The side molding on the doors....did you add that?
Well thats cool just one thing though . You need dual exhaust with a nice rumble , every police car needs that .

Craig, yes the markers are black. They look much better than the silver on this car. I put a full width strip on both bumpers I got from the auto body supply. It really makes the bumpers. The idea was born by necessity as the only good rear bumper I had was for trim strips and I had to come up with a short time solution to the problem. Personally, I think it was a good one. I like the appearance. The side moulding on the body was already there and I decided to leave it. Just dyed the insert black. No door edge mouldings.
Russ, by the laws, as long as any markings saying 'police' or 'sheriff' are covered along with the emergency lights while operating the car on public roadways, it's permissable. I'm using magnetic sheet to cover the doors which also say 'not in service'. Illinois got a bit stricter requiring cars registered there to have antique plates also. I believe that they are the only state that is that way, which sucks because the biggest emergency vehicle show in the US is in Chicago in June.
Man that does great Wes, can't wait to see it in July. I think one thing you need to add is a Dunkin Donuts box to the dash board with a couple wadded up napkins, just for authenticity .
One of the guys I work with was an Army M.P. in the early 80's. He was stationed in Washington state. He said they had Mavericks for cruisers. They beat the snot out of them.
My Dad was full-time National Guard in NC for 30+ yrs. He used to drive 4 door Mavs home from work. They were all big bumper cars with beige interior, light green exterior. I believe they were always 6 cyl. cars. They were just staff vehicles, replaced later by 80's K-cars. Seth
