Every engine has its own personality. I get my best mpg at 3300-3400 at 70 mph. I don't feel this is a high rpm for a street car with a few go-fast goodies. 4800-5500 is high in my book. If you get the rpm down too low then you will be running on the idle circuit all the time and the engine will be running rich. You can't compare a carburetor car with a computer controlled fuel injected cars. Here is a rpm calculator to help you figure out if you speedometer is reading wrong. http://1bad6t.com/gear_ratio__mph.html It even has a tire size chart to get your numbers in the ball park.

Thanks Rick! I will have to wait until I get it inspected, registered and my mufflers before i drive it over there. Really the only reason I want it lower rpms at that high of a speed is because I can't even get passed 90 without it almost redlining. I'm a speed demon! I know this maverick will never run on a track, but would be nice to get it up to 90 every once in a awhile.

Well I found out that the gear I had for the speedo is incorrect for the tranny. I was still using my I6 gear instead of one for a v8 and the mph is off by 5mph. Which is fine by me. Got my new exhaust system installed sounds pretty good except I have an exhaust leak which hopefully I just fixed this morning. The only crappy part is when I had only headers and drove to the muffler shop it had a really cool noise when I was doing 70 and let go of the gas, brum brum brum brum. With the flow masters I do that and it sounds like rocks being shook around in a tin can. Probably because of the exhaust leak. Will try it today and see how it sounds. Thanks again guys! Couldnt have fixed this maverick without all of your help. I will be a supporting member very soon and im sure I will need more help.:Handshake:tiphat:

This maverick is fun in the rain.
