I was looking around on summit to see if they had any drilled and slotted rotors for mavericks and I found some drilled ones http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PWR-AR-8110R/ would swapping on drilled rotors be a worthwhile investment? from what Ive been told the holes drilled in them help keep the rotor and pads cooler, not sure if drilled rotors stop any better than undrilled ones. or should I wait and do a granada brake swap, i hear that granada brakes are bigger than whats on a maverick.
drilled and or slotted rotors actually allow the pads and rotors to get hotter. what they do is allow the gas that forms between the pad and the rotor to escape. this allows for a higher amount of friction to be achieved and will increase the potential brake force
Granadas had the same exact front disc brakes as Mavericks. If you look up the part numbers they'll cross over. I paid less than that price for both of my rotors at my local friction shop. If you want better stopping force invest in some better calipers. The single piston granada/maverick calipers are nothing to rave about, but they get the job done.
I got slotted/crossed drilled rotors from... Rotorpros ...about 5-6 years ago. they were coated and still look new today. I think they were about $150 shipped. Earl has a set on his car. Mike has a set for his. Frank...
no i havnt, i think the mustang spindles wil fit tho because my dad took some 72' merc comet spindles and put them on my moms 66 stang. swapping shouldnt be a big deal.
the old 4 piston mustang calipers use a bracket that bolts to the drum brake spindle. i had a set that i was going to use till found out the cost to replace the sized up calipers. so if you have the mounting brackets for those calipers you can put them on maverick drum spindles.
so what your saying is that i would need the drum brake spindles and swap them with the disc brake spindles on my maverick in order to use that caliper, right? my mav has discs up front but my parts car has drums on the front so i should be able to use those if i can source a set of those brackets your talking about.
yes that is what im saying. i checked the prices on the calipers in the above link. they are $139.00 + $200 core charge each. so you would have $320.00 for just the calipers. remember these are 1960s technology. i would suggest going with the mustang steve brackets that let you use 94 and newer mustang brakes on the drum brake spindle. these are allot lighter and will work allot better and be allot cheaper and easier to replace parts as needed.
ok kool, i will look for those brackets, do you know if i will have to make any major mods to the factory brake lines on my car and could i keep my cars manual brake system?
